Derbyshire County Council has two exciting opportunities for two Senior Transport Officers to join our Local Bus Team at a time of ongoing transformation and as we begin our Bus Service Improvement Plan journey.
These roles are a fantastic opportunity for experienced passenger transport professionals to join our team and to provide clear strategic and operational supervision and support to our Local Bus Team.
You’ll be working closely with a wide range of partners both internal and external, including our bus operators, suppliers and contractors and as part of our various stakeholder boards and forums.
We have one Senior Transport Officer – Network position and one Senior Transport Officer – Infrastructure position.
Both roles will:
• Work with the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) team, Senior Managers, staff in departments across the Council, and Enhanced Partnership (EP) Board Members to support and facilitate the successful delivery of the Council’s BSIP.
• Provide financial monitoring and budgetary support to colleagues and Senior Officers.
Key aspects of each role will also include:
Senior Transport Officer – Network
• Ongoing assessment of the local bus network and provision of both commercial and contracted passenger transport services.
• Manage the on-going monitoring, administration, and compliance of contracted local bus services, including service specifications, tender and contract documents.
• Provide advice and support with regards to complaints and enquiries.
• Manage our roadside infrastructure projects from inception and the upgrade and maintenance programme (the use of a Council vehicle will be provided).
• Liaise with local bus operators, contractors and traffic management companies with regard to roadworks, disruptions and events.
• Secure funding from various internal and external sources to enhance our infrastructure provision.
What skills/experience will you need?
• Substantial experience of passenger transport services, from a strategic and/or operational delivery aspect.
• Great leadership and people management skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of both statutory and regulatory aspects of passenger transport operations.
• Knowledge of public transport funding initiatives including sustainable transport projects.
• Experience of budgetary management and monitoring.
• Sound financial and commercial awareness,
• Project and programme management skills.
• The drive and determination to ‘make a difference’ for the people of Derbyshire.
