Your role in elevating the East Midlands

Improving transport is central to EMCCA’s goal of raising up the East Midlands region. As our new mayor has highlighted, there is no point creating more skills and employment opportunities if people cannot access them. Residents need to connect into the regional web to boost prosperity and prospects. You will be making a valued contribution to the achievement of our transport ambitions.

Your role will focus on supporting the successful implementation of EMCCA’s transportation programmes and projects. You will be working at the heart of the transport team and its planning initiatives, so you will be ideally placed to grow your skills and experience. Key responsibilities include:

- Supporting the administration of project management/project delivery of transport programmes, including maintaining project documentation, tracking progress, and coordinating meetings and reports.

- Responding to day-to-day requirements within these programmes, ensuring timely resolution of issues.

- Assessing initiatives and offer suggestions regarding their feasibility, cost-efficiency, and community impact.

- Addressing requirements for major transport programmes/projects, under supervision, by formulating sub-plans and relevant content.

- Assisting in research activities to inform policy, plans, and strategy review and developments within the transport sector.

- Analysing transport data and preparing briefing notes, reports, and presentations of written and graphical information.

- Collecting insights from stakeholder meetings and offering input to support strategy development.

- Representing EMCCA at meetings, public exhibitions, and other events.

- Guiding and assisting new joiners to the team.

Your profile

- Degree or equivalent experience in transportation planning, civil engineering, urban planning, geography, or a related discipline.

- Membership of a relevant professional body (such as RTPI) or demonstrable up-to-date knowledge and continual professional development - willing to towards Chartership with the TPS, CIHT, or ICE.

- Understanding of basic transportation principles, regulations, and terminology to effectively support transportation projects and initiatives.

- Familiarity with transportation documents and policies, or the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new regulations and guidelines.

- Familiarity with assisting in the development, writing, and communication of transport policies and strategies.

- Ability to assess transport initiatives, evaluate feasibility, cost-efficiency, and community impact – including ability to analyse data, information, and reports.

- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software for mapping and analysing transport data.

- Experience of assisting with research activities, including data collection, analysis, and report preparation.

- Demonstratable ability to deal with day-to-day requirements on projects or programmes, including communicating effectively with stakeholders.

- Ability to organise and coordinate meetings, including managing communication and documentation for stakeholder interactions.

- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with internal team members, stakeholders, and the public.

- IT skills including managing and analysing data and use of mapping software, such as use of MS Excel, GIS or MS project.
