Your role in elevating the East Midlands

Improving transport is central to EMCCA’s goal of raising up the East Midlands region. As our new mayor has highlighted, there is no point creating more skills and employment opportunities if people cannot access them. Residents need to connect into the regional web to boost prosperity and prospects. You will have a valued supporting role in bringing our ambitions to life.

This role is an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge and experience of transport strategy. You will focus on supporting the development of business cases for key transport initiatives and investments - taking care of the admin tasks required to progress cases smoothly and ensure their quality and accuracy.

You will also make a wider contribution to the work of the transport team. Key responsibilities include

- Assisting with the input of content into strategic economic appraisals and outline cases, following guidance from senior team members.

- Helping to prepare and maintain documentation related to transportation projects, including reports, presentations, and meeting minutes.

- Assisting in coordinating project activities, such as scheduling meetings, tracking progress, and ensuring that tasks are completed on time.

- Assisting in organizing and managing transportation-related data, ensuring its accuracy and accessibility for analysis and decision-making purposes.

- Using financial analysis skills to help create improvement plans for projects or teams you're involved with, providing evidence of your contributions.

- Supporting efforts to educate the public about upcoming projects and schemes through outreach and communication activities.

Your profile

- Degree or equivalent experience in engineering, transport or environmental sciences (e.g., Transport Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies/Science).

- Understanding of basic transportation principles, regulations, and terminology to effectively support transportation projects and initiatives.

- Good understanding of transport and highways legislation, regulations, national policies and professional best practice.

- Experience of working with urban, rural, sustainable and public transport issues.

- Experience in research, analysis and monitoring of transport issues Familiarity with basic technical tools and software used in transportation planning and project management and the ability to analyse data, information, and reports.

- Experience of administrative tasks, including organizing meetings, managing documentation, and maintaining records, preferably in a transportation or related field.

- Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities effectively.

- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and build positive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and members of the public.

- IT skills including managing and analysing data and use of mapping software, such as use of MS Excel, GIS or MS project.
