Bristol
£35,745 - £38,890
Ref: VAC002372

Would you like to make a difference to the infrastructure that surrounds you? Are you an experienced highway engineer? We think you’d fit right in.

Following progression within the team, a vacancy has arisen for an energetic Principal Engineer to work within the planning process to insist upon the best new environments for our current and future generations. Your technical expertise would fit well into our friendly multi-disciplinary group of committed transport, planning, and engineering professionals. Through the section 278 and section 38 highway adoption processes you will ensure that housebuilders and other developers deliver quality for the people of Bristol, with safe and maintainable new infrastructure in accordance with the highest standards.

This job will keep you on your toes - you will be required to assess detailed design drawings submitted by developers before scrutinising the quality of those works on-site. We will also want to get you involved from the earliest planning stages where your valued input will help shape new developments, whilst spotting those future risks that only an engineer can see! You will have relevant of experience of highway engineering, ideally qualified to Chartered Engineer status or preparing to sit a professional review. If you have previous and relevant private sector experience, you will be of particular interest to us, although this is not essential.

The team has expanded in recent years to meet the rapidly increasing demands placed upon it and we seek an enthusiastic team member who will be prepared to insist on the best outcomes, whilst challenging designs and works that would fail to do this.

In addition to the role, we offer a full range of employee benefits and opportunities including flexible working hours, a competitive annual and flexi-leave entitlement, entry into the Local Government Pension scheme, remote working, childcare vouchers and discounts towards the cost of bike purchases, bus travel as well as numerous training opportunities to enhance your technical and professional skills as you progress within the organisation.

Why Bristol City Council?
At Bristol City Council, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation.

Join us and you will receive an excellent rewards package, working in a supportive environment where you will have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.
