Job Title - Head of Transport

Salary - Up to £77,000

Milton Keynes, already a world class city, is growing fast.  How we move people around this unique place, as well as ensure connectivity to the rest of the UK is critical.  As our Head of Transport, you will lead a newly created and fully integrated service, working closely with colleagues and key partners to shape all aspects of our transport strategy and operations.  This is a broad, multi-faceted role that will provide you with outstanding career development as well helping secure Milton Keynes’ place at the heart of the country’s prosperity.

Reporting to the Service Director, Public Realm, you will:

Lead the newly created transport team to become a cohesive, proactive and integral part of the Council, expertly advising on all transport matters, as well as providing outstanding operational and customer services to residents, businesses and visitors

Create and implement Milton Keynes’ Mobility Strategy

Work closely with colleagues in Planning and Highways to develop integrated approaches that shape our City for the future

Deliver strategies that ensure Milton Keynes benefits from the opportunities created by major national and regional transport and infrastructure initiatives

Develop and champion new approaches to sustainable transport and take forward our ground breaking work with driverless cars

Ensure high levels of performance from key operational services under your remit, including passenger transport, car parking, enforcement, and taxi licensing

This is an ideal role for an ambitious leader with the potential to progress to Director level in the future.  We would expect you to have a thorough grounding in transport strategy or operations and a passion for using your expertise to help places work better.  Your leadership credentials, in shaping your teams into a high performing service will be critical.  We will expect you to bring the communication and relationship management skills necessary to build strategic relationships with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders.
