Tower Hamlets is serious about dealing with the transportation challenges it faces, which include congestion, poor air quality, road danger and physical inactivity.
Despite being a place that is well served by rail, tube, DLR and an extensive bus network, roads in the borough are some of the busiest in the country, with traffic using the residential road network at peak times to bypass the congested main road network.
We have therefore invested in creating new professional and technical teams in the growing Highways & Transportation Service to help tackle these issues and provide innovative and creative solutions that will direct the substantial financial investments secured to transform the public realm for the benefit of its unique and diverse community in the heart of the East End of London.
The exciting programmes that are currently being rolled out in the borough include a borough-wide Liveable Streets (Low Traffic Neighbourhoods) Programme, School Streets, extensive footway and carriageway improvements, LED street lighting replacement programme, Crossrail complementary measures, cycling provision, street tree planting and an extensive EV charging network.
If you are ambitious, talented, flexible and able to work collaboratively with diverse teams of colleagues to deliver some of these improvements, then come and join us on a journey to excellence that will make Tower Hamlets one of the best places in London to walk, cycle and use public transport.
