This exciting Service Manager role for Transport Planning and Policy sits within Rotherham Council’s Transportation Infrastructure Service. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Transport Planner who can shape our, and the South Yorkshire region’s, immediate and longer-term transport strategy. You will also have the exciting opportunity to lead the delivery planning of our current Transport Capital Programme, including initiatives to develop active travel, public transport and behavioural change programmes. You will need to be driven, full of initiative and be able to demonstrate commitment to the role and sector.

You will be part of new exciting schemes - We want to build new rail connections, develop our town and local centres through public realm improvements, support a transition to a low carbon transport system and ensure that the potential of the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District is realised. Also, through our Active Travel programme we are creating new infrastructure and promoting behavioural change to encourage more walking and cycling.

You will need strong communication, influencing and problem solving skills aligned with excellent project management and team leadership qualities to lead our team of planners and supporting consultants.

From 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2024 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a weekly / monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded of three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part-time).
