We are currently looking for a Rail Systems Engineering Technical Lead to join our Transport Infrastructure Advisory Practice. It is an excellent opportunity to work on all phases of the project lifecycle starting from requirements definition to verification and validation of requirements whilst advising for major infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas.
We are seeking a Technical Lead who will both act as a focal point for Systems Engineering opportunities as well as undertake technical assurance for the project deliverables:
- Lead on bids and offer development for systems engineering and assurance work on major infrastructure projects, liaising with other parts of the Atkins group to ensure a joined-up approach.
- Lead the business development activities to secure and maintain a pipeline of Systems Engineering work by engaging with clients within and outside Atkins.
- Liaise with the Practice Manager and Team Leaders, to ensure we have sufficient resources with the right skills to deliver our current and future market strategies.
- Lead the Rail Systems Engineering offering within the Transport Infrastructure Advisory Practice, reinforcing the team’s technical excellence and flexibility to meet internal and external client needs.
- Assist the Rail Systems & Safety Practice Manager liaise through the Practice with the Market teams to establish resource demand based on pipeline of opportunities.
- Support team performance with focus on meeting or exceeding productivity targets while supporting wider Practice and Atkins objectives.
- The creation of a new transportation division in Atkins brings together the capabilities of our Highway and Rail teams into a single business of 3,000 talented engineers and professionals. Essential Criteria
- Extensive experience in the Rail industry with a broad understanding of the railway as a system and detailed knowledge of multiple railway asset disciplines
- Experience in rail systems engineering, preferably in the UK, with understanding of the multi-disciplinary aspects of that area of work. Demonstrable leadership on systems engineering projects and work package management.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards such as BS ISO 15288, LU: S1538, LU: 1-209, NR/L2/INI/02009 (engineering management), GRIP process (NR/L1/INI/PM/GRIP/100), etc.
- Experienced people manager with good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Good communication skills to interface with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrable collaborative behaviours to interface with the Rail Systems & Safety Assurance Practice Manager, Team Leaders, and other parts of Atkins.
- Experience in understanding customer requirements and developing winning bids.
