Permanent

Project Directors

Department for Transport

Lead a major project that will create a railway capable of delivering national growth.

About the role

As one of our Project Directors, you’ll lead the re-franchising of one of Britain’s railways.  From commercial strategy through to best practice governance, you’ll manage it through to its successful conclusion. It will see you drive engagement with bidders and other stakeholders, and build a core team of 8 – 10 staff plus a wider one of up to 60. Your contribution will play a key role in the government’s vision to create a railway that drives national growth.

About you

This high profile role isn’t currently matched by anything else in the sector. To succeed, you’ll need extensive experience of leading the development and implementation of large-scale, high risk and high value programmes. You’ll have managed complex changes and a change control system. And, as part of a senior leadership team, you will have led collaboratively and by example. You’ll command confidence during commercial negotiations yet handle political environments well, particularly in the UK rail industry. Additionally, you’ll be experienced in developing and evaluating business cases.

About us

Part of Rail Group, Passenger Services provides industry leadership for the shape, direction and the outputs from Britain’s railways. We cover the franchise life-cycle from procurement through to day-to-day management, and put passengers at the heart of what we do. We aim to cause a revolution in public and passenger advocacy for the railways. In this way, passengers get the services they need and deserve, taxpayers get value for money and, as a country, we maximise the benefits from investment.
