Strategic Transport Planning Manager

Sheffield City Council

Strategic Transport Planning Manager
£56k - £61k

Sheffield is not only England’s fourth largest city, but also the greenest city in the UK. Our newly adopted Growth Plan underlines the City Council’s vision of a city that’s easier to get around, better connected, safer for more vulnerable travellers and more sustainable; and this exciting role will be at the heart of accelerating our progress towards realising that vision.

We’re building a safe, reliable and low-carbon transport network that’s fit for the future: one which supports the ambitions of our residents and the potential of our businesses. Our groundbreaking Connecting Sheffield projects will offer more choices to people that want to travel on reliable public transport, on foot or by bike.

You’ll lead our talented and creative Transport Planning team as they develop and deliver the strategies, policies and plans that will support the city’s sustainable economic growth, align with our climate change ambitions and help to improve quality of life for all Sheffield’s people. You’ll keep abreast of emerging approaches and best practice at a regional and national level, influencing not only what we do ourselves but also how we collaborate with partners at every level. Occasionally deputising for the Assistant Director, you’ll be a visible and respected contributor to the regional conversation about strategic transport issues.

Candidates will be appropriately qualified and hold membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIHT or CILT), or be able to demonstrate equivalent competence and knowledge. With a strong track record in transport planning and related policy areas, you’ll be a confident and inspiring manager and leader, with good political acumen. Outcome focused and with a ‘what works’ mindset, you must also have excellent communication and partnership-building skills.

It’s an exciting time to be in Sheffield. You’ll discover inspiring leaders who put the city first, clear, ambitious strategic plans, as well as the resources and partnerships we need to deliver them. To arrange a confidential conversation, please contact Sean Anderson or Ben Cox at Faerfield on 0121 312 3755. For more details and to apply, please visit www.faerfield.co.uk/sheffield
