We have a position based in our Belfast office for a Senior Transport Planner/ Modeller.
The role will involve providing technical expertise to our transport planning team in Belfast, working on a range of projects throughout Northern Ireland as well as supporting other teams in GB. The work will include development planning through the preparation of Transport Assessments for new developments as well as the provision of Service Management Plans. Our teams also deliver a wide range of projects including, transport modelling, scheme appraisal, business case development, accessibility mapping as well as general policy and strategy work, including climate change adaptation. There are opportunities to work on a wide range of exciting projects. .
The successful candidate will enjoy a varied workload working on projects for a range of private and public sector clients including Department for Regional Development and Department for Social Development, as well as other key public sector clients from across the UK and Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- To manage small to medium scale transport planning projects
- To undertake client facing role requiring excellent communication skills
- To provide technical/ analytical support to the transport planning team in Belfast
- To prepare transport assessments, sustainable travel plans and service management plans
- To specify and oversee data analysis to include traffic and pedestrian counts as well car parking data
- To undertake site audits to identify existing and future requirements for transport infrastructure and public transport services
- To provide a lead in technical analysis and be able to derive key findings and report results
- To prepare presentation materials
- To attend public consultation initiatives
- To support business development activities, including preparing tenders and/or networking opportunities;
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, environmental and managerial procedures; and
- Seek Continual Professional Development through annual review and regular training.
Key Requirements
Essential
- Degree in Transport related or Civil Engineering discipline or equivalent experience. Other related degrees such as geography, mathematics, town/land use planning or environmental management may also be considered.
- Proficient IT skills (Microsoft office)
- Understanding and interest in transport planning and policy environment in Northern Ireland, as well as across the UK;
- Understanding and interest in applying best practice and evolving transport planning solutions and proposals to drive continuous improvements and apply innovation;
- Ability to analyse and interpolate data
- Ability to work both independently and within a team, building excellent working relationships
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral – applicants will be expected to produce high quality reports and presentations and may be asked for examples of previous work to demonstrate this;
- Ability to effectively plan and manage projects to budget, time & quality targets and to proactively engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in compiling and completing work tasks / packages;
- Ability to translate technical information for presentation to non-technical audiences
- Keeping up-to-date with current methods and design guidelines
