We are looking for an experienced transport economist/transport planner to join our Economics and Business Case team in the Epsom. We are a growing national Practice specialising in transport economics and business case making and working on high profile, exciting opportunities such as Crossrail 2, Highways England’s Road Investment Programme and the A303 Stonehenge Bypass.

 

The role will involve working as part of a team and leading projects and key work streams to analyse and appraise the impact of transport schemes and prepare business cases to justify the case for investment.

 

Looking at complex projects from every angle, you’ll help our customers to find the best solutions, and gain funding, for their transport challenges. Working with local authorities, the DfT, Highways England and more, we analyse and appraise all kinds of schemes from new highways and railways to bus rapid transit and transport technology projects. We advise on everything from project costs and benefits to the best options and new ways to unlock investment, grounded on the application of robust, innovative and insightful analytical techniques.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual who demonstrates:

  • Excellent analytical, numerical and problem solving skills with the ability to think laterally and experience in developing innovative economic analysis to provide efficient solutions to project challenges
  • In depth knowledge of transport economic appraisal techniques, tools and guidance; including WebTAG, PDfH and BCDM and the ability to interpret and apply to complex situations
  • Good understanding of modelling principles across a range of platforms
  • Good awareness or proficiency in a range of modelling / appraisal tools such as TUBA, MOIRA, transport models and bespoke spreadsheet modelling
  • Proven track record in applying a range of relevant analytical techniques to meet varying client / project requirements in diverse contexts including experience of using analytical and research tools such as databases
  • Sound understanding of how appraisal and business case requirements should match client needs and support scheme development
  • Proven track record of working effectively in a team and in managing projects and/or workstreams successfully, delivering technically excellent projects on time and to budget
  • Good written and interpersonal communication skills for effectively engaging with clients and teams across Atkins
  • Numerate, economics or transport related degree subject and ideally a relevant post graduate qualification and relevant professional qualification (or working towards it), e.g. TPP or the Chartered status
  • A dynamic, enthusiastic and proactive approach and passion for the field.
