About The Role
The role is an excellent training ground for a graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in the field of transport and the environment. To assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of transport projects as delegated to the postholder by the Road Safety Manager and Principal Transport Planner. Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across the directorate to ensure our services are fully integrated and always put our communities first. Your role will also involve coming up with innovative ways to tackle a range of local issues.

As well as giving you huge scope to learn and develop a host of skills, the roles will enable you to make a tangible difference to our diverse communities by making our transport network healthy, clean, green, safe and accessible. You’ll also be part of a supportive team with clear values centred around curiosity, making things happen, seeing the bigger picture, collaborating, and achieving positive outcomes.

About The Team You’ll Be Working In

And by helping to make this a prosperous, healthy, accessible, and safe environment for all, our Transport Planning & Road Safety team is right at the heart of it.

In the Road Safety team you will help to deliver our road safety education and cycle training programmes. In the Strategic Transport team you will help to develop and deliver our active travel programme and transport strategy. The role will help deliver our school travel planning programme and both are central to helping us promote active travel and plan for the future.

About You
If you’re an ambitious and environmentally minded graduate, this role is a great opportunity to help deliver our transport strategy and road safety programme. The post is based in the Road Safety team with some project work in the Strategic Transport team.

Your Skills:
• Ability to manage projects successfully with a good working understanding of practical risk, financial and performance management techniques.
• Good written and verbal communications skills; an ability to summarise complex proposals into non-technical language and draft clear, concise, and accurate reports and an ability to present information and projects for consideration clearly, concisely and persuasively.
• Ability to research and process technical and/or legislative guidance and use findings to inform recommendations or options for a given project or scheme, so that projects meet any relevant standards or requirements.
• Good ICT skills, preferably experience of using Microsoft Applications, such as Outlook, Excel and Word, and CAD. GIS skills are desirable.
• Professional Qualifications:
• Graduate level Transport Planning or Geography qualification/ or other sector specific qualification.
