The Smarter Travel Team delivers a range of projects and programmes focused on behaviour change towards more sustainable and active modes of travel. Our work includes implementing key elements of the Hackney Transport Strategy to target how people travel in particular to schools, commuting, residents of Hackney and travel for new developments.
For schools, change is achieved through continuing the successful delivery of the largest School Streets Programme of any local authority, developed to achieve behaviour change on the school run. We also progress school travel planning initiatives such as school travel plans, Travel for Life and Walk Once a Week. The team also assesses and monitors planning obligations relating to travel plans for key developments in the borough in order to promote sustainable and active travel.
The promotion of active travel continues as a theme through the development of Bike Around The Borough, which is a record holding mass ride for school children in the borough. The annual London Walking and Cycling Conference is held in partnership with the City of London Corporation to promote best practice by bringing together professionals, experts, academics, community groups and more to discuss transport planning developments.
In addition the team also delivers the Green Screens programme to reduce the impact of traffic pollution on school sites, and works with residents through targeting Hackney housing estates with smarter travel initiatives.
Therefore, we are looking for a Sustainable Transport Planner to work in our team to progress travel behaviour change projects and provide support and assistance in the implementation of the Hackney Transport Strategy and Climate Change Action Plan. You would be working on the following projects;
